Sending large files over https?

Hello.
There was a question regarding the return of large files (several hundred MB) via https (through nginx) to a sufficiently large number of clients.
Something tells me that it will be very expensive in terms of computing resources. What do you think, is it worth giving it up or am I mistaken, is there anything terrible in this? If someone has already done this, can you share the numbers: what kind of load was obtained, on what hardware and on how many clients?
Thank you.

Yes, nothing will be there. If you have at least a desktop c2d, then you can give gigabit over https (if you don’t run into disks). And you probably have nowhere to distribute 10G ;)
Of course, with +\- default https settings inside nginx.
