If you're looking for a really good editor, you won't find emacs and rinari better.
If emacs is not suitable, I advise Rubymine, the best of the ide sharpened for ruby, but it is paid.
Gedit has also proved worthy of itself, it fits almost all languages ​​and is quite convenient.

I like Kate . Compared to Gedit, even with plugins that bring it closer to TextMate, Kate still seems subjectively more convenient.
