Ru / Eng on the site. How to do it better?
I wonder how it would be better to switch the language on the site? I heard there are plugins that translate the text into the selected language. But this is not the best solution. I would like to do everything more intelligently.
At first I wanted to make a subdomain like eng.site.ru, but the client asks for site.ru/eng. That's the whole problem. How can this be done in wordpress

Better than WPML, qTranslate is free, but used to be terribly buggy.
And all translations are done in .POT files. And, of course, the theme must be ready for multilingualism - all inscriptions and text in the templates must be laid out in a special way.
Upvote for WPML. Forget about qTranslate, it's no longer supported, and it has the wrong translation solution architecture out of the box.
Free - Polylang.
From the point of view of SEO, it doesn’t matter if you have languages like /ru or as subdomains of ru.site , the value will only appear for locally different businesses in the sense of geographic, then subdomains or even local domains .ru for Russian and .com for English or head global are better .
WPML has built-in translation tools and themes and plugins and content, and even the services of translation agencies. Do not translate automatically, on proz.com you can always find good translators with experience for the price you need.
WPML supports all ways of organizing multilingual content, it is the de facto standard for the production of multilingual sites on WP. It has good documentation and a user forum. If there are difficulties, I can help.
