Resume in .doc or .pdf?

What resume format to choose? I always thought that .pdf is a standard that more or less guarantees cross-platform and that the text will not be scattered in all directions. But I've also heard that HR prefers .doc for its mutability.

PS. I choose only between .doc and .pdf. .exe, .bat, .sh and other executable formats that automatically get me a job - I do not consider due to lack of competence.

Is it finally a "worthwhile question" among "which stack to choose? uni or work? enter IT or go to a pub?"
Have you seriously decided to ask what format to choose? God, at this rate, people here will not be able to fart without a question.

Yes, any format. The main thing is to read.
I don’t like to read a PDF resume, I prefer doc/docx/rtf, simply because it’s more convenient to scroll in Word.
But not once did the format affect my impression of the candidate in any way - situations are different.
Who licks the resume, who makes the export from Linkedin or another (possibly internal software).
Content is not just more important than format, it is the only one that matters.

Everything is pretty obvious here: linkedin (+ github). They cover 90 percent of all cases where a resume is needed.
In other cases, you must have an editable file (doc, for example), and which you export to pdf for distribution. That is, send PDF by default, if someone asks for the source, ask why, if you are satisfied with the answer, then send the source. At the same time, once again, the format of the source should be convenient for you.

pdf
opens everywhere, many do not know how to edit. I once met an amateur to "adapt" a resume for ease of understanding by the director.

Why do we need files at all? It is enough to fill out a resume in a service like hh and send a link. The recruiter himself, if desired, will be able to download it in any convenient format, the service supports such functionality
