Replaced the file, how to restore the old one?

There were bookmarks from the browser in .html format, I wanted to export them, but accidentally replaced them with new bookmarks, i.e. the file itself was replaced with a new html file.
In the WinHex recovery program, I couldn’t find .html among the files (you need to select the extension there)
, is it possible to recover somehow?

No, when you replace a file, the old one is not deleted, its body is replaced with new content, so you will not restore the old file.

  • Make sure there is no write to the disk where the overwritten file was;
  • If it is an SSD, then either promptly disable TRIM on your machine, or quickly turn it off, find another one, disable TRIM there, and connect your drive;
  • Do a full disk scan with R.saver , it is possible that you will be able to restore other versions of the replaced file (if it was updated periodically).
