Recycling in small IT companies?

Is it true that in small companies it will not be possible to be a normal backend? And you will be constantly driven to the frontend and sometimes used as a layout designer? Or is it a stupid rumor? Many people advise me to go to large companies for the enterprise, as I quote: "The work there is simple, a little boring, but stable and paid on average higher, and you will not do your job, but in a small company, get ready to be a full stack for less money ". This is all true? And is it really easier to solve enterprise problems than to rivet similar ecommerce sites in a small company on the same python / ruby?

It all depends on the specific company.

If you consider a narrow specialist who works exclusively with the server as a "normal backend", and on the front, when adding 2 and 2, gets 22 - you need to look for a large company where you will be a cog.
Honestly, I honestly don't understand why. Are you afraid to do a variety of jobs?

In my very first company, where there were small cheap orders and outsourcing, there was a clear division into the work of a backender and a frontender (except sometimes js had to be added or edited), and in a large company, an enterprise project had to be full stacked, so the pattern is very conditional. It’s better to clearly state when looking for a job that you want to work only with the backend, because there are many places where they try to add work with the js framework and layout in order to save on the search for separate front-end developers

All companies are different, including large ones. And in a large company, front and back can be combined, for example, if you get into a team developing an internal and a small component. Easier and tedious will depend on the company, and often even on the team within the company. Another thing is that in large companies you most likely will not rivet websites, it will be a completely different direction, and the requirements for backing there will be completely different than those you are used to.

Yes, of course, in small companies, where there is one person for the front, one for the back and one student layout designer, there are constant distortions in productivity, in a small office there will be one manager for everyone, who will constantly ask you to work for a neighbor. Petya does not have time with the front, let's all help Petya, and a week later Vasya does not have time with the back, let's all help Vasya.
The more staff, the less processing of strangers, if 20 people in three departments are engaged in backing and another 20 in the front, it is extremely unlikely that they will be asked to do someone else's work of someone else's department, you have your tasks planned for a month in advance, no one will let you quit yours and do what -something else.

In large companies, there is usually a division of labor and everything is heavily bureaucratized.
Smaller ones will often have to work with related technologies. It all depends on the activities of the company and your position.

According to my observations, there is a clear division into front and back and dba only in product teams. Outsourcing has to do both. However, I have a kind of sharepoint dynamics 365 products. There, the front and back are closely intertwined. Therefore, separating them is unproductive. Although ui is still drawn by designers, and layout is done by layout designers, I just pull on the specifics

Depends on the company. I worked in one where there was a separate layout designer and a separate front, a separate backender, a separate manager. In fact, it was the whole company.
In the other one, I had to make up the layout, but then we agreed to give the layout for outsourcing.
Find out at the interview as is customary in the company.

The work there is simple, a little tedious, but stable and paid on average higher, and you will not do your job

1. In large companies, there are often many subteams, each of which will have its own development process. Including they can drive to the front (I don’t see anything wrong with that, to be honest)
2. "The work is simple, a little tedious" - what kind of companies are we talking about? I can immediately recall a large IT company or its division, where the work is never "not difficult", but they do not drive to the front.
In general, choose a company to your liking. Ask at the interview what tasks they solve there, whether they drive backenders to the front (since this is important to you), whether there are overtime
