Recommend mobile laptop for programming

I'm going to buy a laptop / netbook and use it to write code in Java, IDE - IntelliJ IDEA. I prefer Intel processors, as there are fewer problems with their video card in Linux.

I picked up two models (moreover, the second one does not fit into the budget, but you can save money), but if you have your own option, offer it. Only a budget in the region of $ 300-400 is desirable.

The first option - Asus Eee PC 1015PX Suits
:
-Price;
-Small, compact size;
-Good battery life;
-Design;
Confused :
-Small screen resolution;
- Weak video adapter (but I hope it can handle flash video?);

The second option - Asus K53E Suits
:
-Good processor;
- Sufficient screen resolution;
-Design;
Confuses:
-Large size;
-Price;
- Battery life;

Questions:
1. How convenient is it to write code using 1024x600 resolution?
2. How stressful is it to carry around a 15 inch laptop every day?

Thanks in advance, please help me decide.

10 inch laptops have an extremely uncomfortable small keyboard. The fingers are tied in a knot. Look towards 12-13 inches

Almost every day I carry a 15-inch Asus K52 with me - it does not interfere at all when in a backpack. A little uncomfortable in a shoulder bag.
Netbooks not only have a small screen, but also the keyboards are not the most comfortable.

Writing code at low resolution is inconvenient - few lines fit on the display => you need to scroll often.
But it’s not difficult for me personally to carry a 15 "laptop with me. At one time, I carried 17" with me every day.

I strongly advise you to buy with a matte screen, because. a glossy travel laptop is torture. Wearing 15 is hard, I advise you to choose with a diagonal of 13 inches - it is optimal in terms of size / keyboard / screen.

1. Not enough, at least 1366x768
2. Not convenient, if only in a backpack, but it will also be heavier, and if it is with low battery life, then also a charger.
It is better to carry no more than 1.8Kg with you.
If the graphics are not important at all, look towards the 2x nuclear atom, or if there are funds, then towards the CULV.
And most importantly, be sure to have a matte screen! Light bulbs in the rooms will really interfere. Plus, in order to see something, you will have to increase the brightness, and this is a minus for battery life.

asus 1215n? I myself for this kind of occupation will soon take myself this device. because a full-fledged laptop (~ 3kg) will be hard to carry all day (already tested on myself), and 10 "is too small a screen in my opinion.

As for the models, I will not holivarit. Let me just say that I have a 14-inch, and this is not enough for serious work. You need an external monitor of 20 inches. Look not so much at inches as at the resolution of the matrix. So my above can be expressed as follows - programming at 1368x760 is possible, but inconvenient.
Also, if you are programming for the web, then I do not recommend Windows, Mac or Linux is better. But this is IMHO

I used to code on 15.4" everything was ok.
When my wife and I went on vacation and had urgent work on the Internet, I used her netbook with a 10" screen, after that I mow on netbooks very much. It's impossible to work on it.
Now I have purchased a 23" monitor, to be honest, the efficiency has increased. So, I advise you to take a closer look at models with a maximum screen resolution in terms of weight.
I think that 13"-14" is ideal for a mobile version of the workplace, the main thing here is not to miscalculate, otherwise with a small screen, work efficiency can be greatly reduced, so it’s better to carry an extra kilogram with you than to freak out from a small screen and an uncomfortable keyboard.

The MacBook Pro 13" is better than the Air though. It's perfect.

I took a ThinkPad Edge E320 1298RS7 and have no regrets, it's a good machine.

I work with eeepc 1005PE, everything is fine (including the java / netbins bundle)
, including working with the browser, although of course it is more convenient to debug code on BB JS, but in terms of speed - no complaints (although I have Gentoo) I
recommend installing Awesome - control from the keyboard and tile, plus it takes up little space on the screen, what you need to work with the laptop on the source code
PS
Above, they suggested the MacBook Air - a useless heater, just carry a charge behind it.
IRL - take a laptop for yourself, all claims to laptops depend on the shape of the hands (in the literal sense) and the skill of configuring the system (the curvature of the hands again)
I would not say that everything works out of the box under eers, but it’s not difficult to finish it in a working view ( and in any case, tweaking Linux for hardware never hurts)
Performance won't be a key factor for you, so choose according to size, comfort, weight and battery life.

For 17.3" and a wide keyboard, I'm ready to carry 3.5 kg with me. And I carry: market.yandex.ru/model.xml?modelid=7328283. And it works no worse than on the desktop. Take a closer look at hefty laptops, it's better not to come up with coding.

I used to have EEEPC-900, now ASUS K53E.
Writing on a netbook is unrealistic, it's better not to even try. So I'll move on to K53E.
I carry a laptop in my backpack. I’m not particularly pumped up, so the first 2 weeks my shoulders were quite noticeably tired by the end of the day (i.e. in the morning I put a laptop + a couple of notebooks, the road to the university, 2-3 pairs, 2-4 hours of work and the road home). But then I began to wear light at all, I don’t get tired at all. So if you keep yourself in shape, then the addiction period will be much reduced.
Hope I could help.

I join, the minimum suitable option is a laptop with 12 ".
The characteristics of laptops in the same price category are by and large similar, so I think that you should pay special attention to the keyboard.

Right now I have an asus-1005ha, 10 inches, 1024x768, a glossy screen, a single-core atom 1.66GHz, it is quite possible to code on it. one of my projects (https://github.com/stepank/pyws, you can estimate the amount of code yourself) was entirely written on this machine. at first I used eclipse, then I switched to the idea, the operating system was ubuntu. surprisingly, the processor performance is enough for the idea, but browsers work very slowly
I gradually got used to the keyboard, and now it does not cause any problems, although the full-size one is, of course, more convenient. The main trouble with netbook keyboards is the lack of full-fledged home, end, pgdn, pgup, instead of them you need to use fn + arrows, but after a certain amount of code this switches to automatic, sometimes after weekends on a full-size keyboard, fingers themselves reach for a non-existent fn. but because of the smaller size of the keys, you have to spread your fingers less - all key combinations with ctrl are noticeably easier to perform. And in general, hands fly less on the keyboard :)
a glossy screen sometimes, of course, gets in the way, but these are isolated cases, most of the time I just don’t notice it. 1024x768 resolution is enough for the panel with files and the editor itself. I usually keep the file structure (classes, methods, functions) closed. but I have a clear rule - lines should be no more than 80 characters long, however, I also adhere to it on a 24-inch monitor at work;) much more, by the way, strains the screen resolution in height, in browsers different panels eat up a lot of space and even When using chrome, sometimes you have to go into full screen mode
in general, if there is really little money, then you can get along on such a machine, its advantages can also include a rather long battery life, five hours in coding mode, the battery lasts without problems, while the laptop weighs a little more than a kilogram, and I I take it with me only if I'm leaving somewhere overnight, and then not always
, however, if it is possible to take something more expensive, then really take something with 13 inches. I decided to make myself a gift for dr and change after a while to asus u36sd

look towards samsung 350u2b. I myself was thinking of buying it as a road programming laptop. but in the end I decided to wait for the laptops on the ivy bridge.

I decided to wait for ultrabooks with FULLHD and maybe with Retina displays.
if the resolution is not so critical, you can already take ultrabooks now. they are light and fast.

In addition to the screen resolution and size/weight, I would pay even more attention to the processors… I really don’t advise the Atom… I had a Toshiba netbook before, even increasing the memory by 2 times didn’t give me a performance boost… Eclipse + Android emulator worked there, oh how slowly... so the second option you chose will still be better...
take something bigger, at least 15", these are your eyes and your nerves, especially since they are next to netbooks at prices

I have a 13-inch VAIO, it is very convenient to program on the road, it weighs a little more than one and a half kilograms, the only thing is the price is biting.

I bought a Samsung N150 a year and a half ago. IMHO, it has a very comfortable keyboard for its size, on which you can type blindly in the same way as on my large laptop with 17 inches, despite the small size. Yes, and he is smart, he spit the installed seven without problems, and now ubunta flies on it without brakes.
