Oh, it would be easier to write for yourself ... It will take a little time, for that it will be without any frills. Although I think both Wordpress and Joomla are perfect ... But you have to configure it for convenient use. And I think that they will be too heavy for such small requests.
If you don’t want to bother with writing/settings and have some extra money, you can buy Bitrix and get your site right out of the box, they have a special assembly for internal sites there.
Fast, convenient, understandable www.1c-bitrix.ru/products/intranet/#tab-features-link
There you can download the 30-day version or test it directly online using the link.
Sharepoint from Microsoft

SharePoint Foundation 2010 is the base edition of Microsoft SharePoint and is free.
It seems to me that ModX would be perfect - a tree-like directory for the employee directory. News can also be displayed without problems with the built-in DITTO snippet.

It is better to take free solutions - Bitrix or Sharo-Point are not needed here. For the stated task, CMS is not required - it is more fun and easier to write it yourself - it develops. If there is no time - Drupal, WordPress, Joomla ...
Can be done in HostCMS on infosystems using the free version. There you can link information systems using additional properties. You can also create an “additional property: Date” in the additional properties of the information element - in your case it will be a birthday.
I used this principle to draw the structure of the cross-country skiing federation (in the form of a tree).
