Rails: how to properly implement a dashboard?

In the project, there is a need to implement a customizable dashboard. There are several user roles in the system, devise+cancan. What I would like to see, depending on the role of the user, certain elements for the dashboard are available that can be configured in the profile. And I would like to customize the location of the elements as well. While looking at cells.rubyforge.org. Who can tell me how to properly implement the dashboard?
