Here is what the manual says
"The TStringGrid component is a table with an arbitrary
number of rows and columns. That is, when printed, the report will grow not only in
height, but also in width. To print such a component, we use the
Cross-tab object (it becomes available when adding the
TfrxCrossObject component to the project)."

The supplied package of FastReport components in RadStudio XE7 is not complete. I myself faced a similar problem.
The solution was to remove the built-in components and install FastReport 5.
