Quickly place a graph on a plane (algorithms, libraries)?

Good afternoon, dear, the task is to quickly place the graph on the plane. Size up to 20-30 thousand peaks. Fast - up to 5 seconds, and preferably even faster. I would be grateful both to simple algorithms (I would like something simple, understandable and fast), and implementations in C ++ (it is possible in other languages).
Wrote a simple algorithm, not satisfied with the placement speed.
This question is often raised, but intelligible answers have not been found anywhere. I know about graphviz and tulip and about a couple of algorithms from boost (BGL) and about Alena's post ( alenacpp.blogspot.com/2006/02/blog-post_19.html).
