Python: How to check if a text field contains a string/data?

Can you please tell me how to check if the text field of the desktop application (which is not a string, it's just an activation input field) contains the entered data.
TestComplete offers a field.Text == "string". Without being tied to TestComplete, what can python offer to make the script more independent of this framework?
