Pros and cons of MODx for a school site
The authorities set the task of reworking the site of our Center for additional services. education under the new standards.
I liked MODx, but I have no experience with it.
What rake will I have to step on?

The system is good, made with understanding.
From what I don’t like: the admin panel is rather heavy (written in ExtJS), when you need to do a lot of things in the admin panel, you get tired of looking at all these page reopenings, gradual opening of lists during page load, you want to quickly edit the content, but it turns out that you wait half the time until it becomes editable. Secondly, the template engine is rather primitive there - the programmer lacks its capabilities, but this can be overcome if the simplest logic is enough in the templates. Thirdly, complex things are difficult to do on modx. You either need to be an expert in it (since you will only probably master modx, this is not suitable for you), or solve with the help of crutches (this is also not suitable for everyone), it turns out that you will not be able to do difficult things on it.
Otherwise, I repeat, the system is competent, it works quickly. They said above that the scripts are stored in the database - yes, but the smart guys have already thought about this and everything that can be cached there (and the templates, of course, are compiled).
The main drawback is the lack of a ready-made solution for tasks.
Once with a friend checked. It was necessary to make a site for transferring files. He is on Drupal and I am on Modx. He did faster. I had to take a ready-made module and rewrite it to fit my needs.
If you take CMS, then in many after installation you already see the site. Page menu, etc. Immediately after installation, you see a blank page.
I have been working on modx for a long time, there are a number of sites. Even an online store.
I will say this on modx, the management and development of an average site and further support is convenient, but longer.
It depends on what tasks your education center has. What do you need on this site, what is planned to be done. If you just fill the site with content, then the same WordPress will go. If you also need forums, user message boards, news, blogs and other user-generated content there, then for this it is better to take something like Drupal. For a two-three-page site, you can even take something like CodeIgniter and pull on a template.
In any case, no matter what you take, you will have to deal with it, adjust and finish it.
Probably the same as when using any other CMS - incompatibility of plugins, adding them to your needs, themes, content editor, query optimization ...
MODx is powerful, but its architecture is terrible... (the PHP code of the so-called snippets is stored in the database), with a large amount of content it is very slow.
The system is great and easy to use!
In my opinion, all these Wordpress, Joomla and others captivate with their readiness (plugins, topics, etc.), in MODX it is more and more transparent and more convenient to implement something of your own than in other popular cms. Again, this is just my personal opinion!
