Proper pgo c++ console optimization?

If you choose pgo optimization, when you try to just start using debug / release VS swears at the lack of pbg and it is possible to compile the application only from under build->pgo->instrument{.then}optimize.
Is it possible to configure vs to disable pgo when debug is enabled?
