Problem with modal window. Bootstrap 4?

When creating a modal window, apart from dimming the background, nothing happens. Did everything exactly according to the lesson. Googled, re-read the documentation, but did not find a solution. I will be grateful for help. I'm new to Bootstrap, so don't throw stones.

quibbler1 , why do you have a modal fade class? And the modal-dialog class without the hyphen. Check documentation:
