Printer settings when printing from a browser

I make pages for printing, I want to make life as simple as possible for users: choose the correct page orientation for them, the state of the “print background” option, etc.

Googled any stackoverflow.com/questions/138422/landscape-printing-from-html and further down the list on the right , re-read the specification @pageand various articles on the topic and about.
Everything turned out to be very non-cross-browser.
Expanding the orientation with a transform is also not a solution, not everyone has a “portrait” by default.
There are also software solutions, but strange and for a specific browser, sometimes in exotic programming languages.

How did you solve a similar problem? Which way to think? Does it make sense at all, or is it easier to display instructions to users “what to click in the print settings to make it beautiful”?

Solved a similar issue. It's easier to write a user manual than to fuck with this, sorry.
About 400 man-hours were spent and without much result.
