Opencart - how to make the canonical tag not site/product, but site/category/product?

By default, opencart has canonical tags like " my-site.com/product " (if on a product page) or " my-site.com/category " (if on a category page). For example, if we are on the url " my-site.com/smartphone/iphone ", then the canonical will be " my-site.com/iphone ", but it should be " my-site.com/smartphone/iphone ".
This is probably a typical problem that developers face, but I did not find a sensible solution.
