Open Source VDI - does it make sense?

How safe and non-gemorrhoidal is this solution?
Now a terminal win server is running on the network, in a test version Linux LTSP is running (on thin clients). Everything works, it seems that even the employees do not complain)
But there is no rest)))
I would like to find some very convenient universal solution - how to access your workplace from anywhere? :)
After a quick googling, I found options:
www.ulteo.com and some dumb solution on kvm
Maybe someone has already worked with something similar in practice? I'm interested in free options - for money anyone can :)

What's wrong with kvm? At one time I thought about VDI, but somehow they didn’t get to test it. Considered this option https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAM5rVsyONQ
