Open source supply chain planning - Frepple. Project experience?
Hello!
We want to understand how the software is suitable and can be improved
https://frepple.com/
https://github.com/frePPLe/frePPLe
The goal is to optimize the interaction of several companies in the same production chain, widely scattered across geography.
Comrades, did anyone have experience with this beast?
What +/- do you see?
Are there analogues that can be improved on python/django?
thanks :)

The designated goal (optimization of the interaction of several companies of the same production chain) looks generalized - depending on what is meant by the optimization of interaction.
Regarding the applicability, it should be understood that frePPLe is suitable for those who launch solutions for optimizing sales, production and supply chain planning, where the optimization target is the Service Level of sales orders (Service Level) and all optimization heuristics along with others calculations, including production planning, is set up to fulfill exactly this goal (regardless of geography).
Among the advantages can be identified:
Parametric customizability - i.e. without adding code, almost any planning model is configured at the advanced user level. Calculation of the model of plans can be performed in different options by setting the input parameters for each option. An undoubted plus is scenario planning, i.e. for each calculation option, you can create separate scenarios. To check the stability of the calculated plan, you can run a simulator of its execution in any horizon, the simulator will show the risks and potentially vulnerable links in the supply chains - this is also a definite plus before sending the enterprise plan for approval and approval. Spreadsheet integration is also a plus for those who are used to working with Excel spreadsheets. Well, probably graphics with color indication (red-yellow-green).
Of the minuses, this is probably the exactingness in the subject training of users, i.e. it is necessary to make some efforts in mastering the product and spend a certain amount of time studying the subject matter.
How frepple is usable and modifiable depends on the competencies of your IT team. Firstly, it is an open Python/Djando/PostgeSQL platform, the interface part is a standard browser-based layout set (Django+HTML+CSS+JS+Bootsrap), the solver's heuristics are written in C++. Secondly, it makes no sense to refine the solver (you just need to master it well in detail), and all refinement usually comes down to integration with the current accounting system and setting up queries for custom reports.
Good luck!
