On which wiki engine to raise the content project?
It is required to create a knowledge base site, but it is supposed to be done as a "convenient" wiki project. Therefore, the question for practitioners is what wiki engine ? You need a minimum of intervention and knowledge of layout programming. We will learn the markup by force.
The question also arises - where to store large-volume content (pictures)? Use a CDN? - If so, which one would you recommend?
WHY A WIKI
I think because of the complexity of the subject matter, the need for permanent cross-links, and the site's reference design is the best option. Maybe I'm wrong, and these are unnecessary problems with markup and everything else? (provided that experience in WIKI = 0)

1. If the first place is the convenience of work for the end user, then I would choose from paid Confluence, from free Xwiki. But if there is no desire to understand administration and you want simplicity, then I would choose Dokuwiki
2. A database is tables in an explicit or implicit form, for example, lists or a task manager. I've never seen a friendlier xwiki engine for the user.
XWiki is a second-generation wiki written in Java, licensed under the LGPL, functionality includes a blog, API tools, comments, LDAP authentication, page export to PDF. There is also the ability to program scripts (Velocity, Groovy, Python, Ruby and PHP) and support the syntax of popular wiki engines (Confluence, JSPWiki, Creole, MediaWiki, and TWiki). Used by many companies around the world. 25 interface languages, including Russian.
Of the minuses - few people use it among Russian speakers.

my article with an example of a portable customized version for myself, although a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then, there are significantly more features.
