Not sending mail redmine, debian 8?

Installed redmine on debian 8 from the repository (version 3.0 if I'm not mistaken). In general, everything works except for mail, namely sending mail by redmine to one or another participant.
I tried to specify both sendmail and smtp in the redmine config, there is no result in two cases.
sendmail only saved to /var/mail/user_name. smtp is not clear.
for smtp, I specified both timeweb and google mail.
I already have no ideas. googling doesn't help.
Therefore actually a question: how all the same to get mail in this sheaf?

Where is the config? It is not at all clear what you have and why.
