Not enough processor power to watch Youtube?

I recently noticed that when opening a youtube page in chrome, the video slows down. In the task manager, the processor load at this moment reaches 98%. The amount of RAM is enough, there is still almost 3 GB of free space left. The processor is an old dual-core core2duo e7500. Maybe it's in him? 2008 build computer running Ubuntu XFCE.

You need to change the codec to use the GPU instead of one CPU. h264ify chrome extension .

Makes YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos
Try h264ify if YouTube videos stutter, take up too much CPU, eat battery life, or make your laptop hot.
By default, YouTube streams VP8/VP9 encoded video. However, this can cause problems with less powerful machines because VP8/VP9 is not typically hardware accelerated.
In contrast, H.264 is commonly hardware accelerated by GPUs, which usually means smoother video playback and reduced CPU usage. h264ify makes YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos.

In biose, you can overclock the core2duo e7500 to 3200 MHz

there is an ancient computer with a similar processor under Ubuntu with a gnome - I did not notice any such problems.

Linuxmint 19
core2duo e8500 (overclocking 3.75Ghz)
1080p 30hz, 720p 60hz < 85% CPU load
some video pulls and 1080p 60hz
if you watch through VLC then the load is 2-3 times less
