*NIX (Linux) or Windows (or other)?
I read articles and books and got a little confused. In your opinion, is the choice of a *nix-like OS for a programmer/IT specialist highly desirable (except for highly specialized tasks/.NET/UWP/...)? It's just that on the one hand, I see the need for a deep study of the mathematical foundations of programming, on the other hand, a couple of my friends (at school) quickly achieved some commercial success in writing applications (on the web) or sites using Windows, and I seem to be rummaging around on the spot. On the other hand, I generally think that programming should be studied after graduation, and now you need to focus on school subjects: especially mathematics and physics, and put aside all these operating systems and languages for later.

linux is a working option for the web, but windows is in no way inferior, but at the same time it has auxiliary software. linux is very good paired with a second computer on windows, and if you do not understand linux, you will rather lose than gain from using it. For windows games in 95% of cases it is necessary
If you associate yourself with the web, then the doctor prescribed Linux for you.
But if NET, then it seems to me like Windows
Egor, you can try to use a virtual machine and use it to run linux in windows, and then when you master it, think about switching to linux.
