*nix and file tags?
Good afternoon!
I have been trying to find a working option for adding tags to files in Linux for a long time.
Naturally, I tried the option that is now being promoted at the Ubuntu level. This is tracker. But it has significant, from my point of view, disadvantages: 1. tags are stored in a separate database - it is not very convenient to copy them to other machines; 2. the program itself is still poorly integrated into the system (for example, file managers); 3. Tracker tends to "get out of control" - it starts working when search is disabled or the system slows down a lot.
Therefore, I decided to try using the # symbol in the file name before the tag.
Example: my-file#tag.html
Question: can this have any consequences, except for the case when the # symbol is preceded by a space (and everything after it is considered a comment)? Maybe there are some other reliable options for organizing tags in *nix?
Apparently, this task has been successfully solved in Mac OS: previously it was possible to add tags using comments in Spotlight and in third-party applications, and in the new version they will already be built-in at the system level.
Thanks for the help!
