After installing nginx as a frontend to Apache, the response time graph became like this (according to monitoring by webopulsar):

Before installation, everything was smooth.

OS - Ubuntu server 10.04, site on Yii (PHP) + APC included. No more than 50% of the RAM is loaded, the CPU is no more than 20%. VPS.

Test the site better with something more objective.
For example, a good ab utility, preferably (but not critical) from another computer in the same DC.
You will see the difference immediately.

Webo dudes' products show the state of webo, not your site or server. Always.
It's not a fact that there is no problem on your server, but then you need to collect data for analysis, and not who knows what from hell.

At least a chain of two http servers, instead of one, will not reduce the response time, but add it. And why these peaks happen, it already needs to be looked at from the server side, what is happening in the system at that moment.

Increase worker_processes to at least the number of cores in the system.
