New site, old domain: buy a new domain or put a redirect?

Hello,
I am working on updating the corporate website and it is already ready for launch, but here's the bad luck: After the new year, the company changes its name.
The current site is about 6 years old, there is some trust from search engines. What is the right thing to do in this case?
1. Register a new domain and place the new site separately, leaving the old one as it is
2. Register a new domain and put a 301 redirect from the old site to the new one. Will the weight be transferred in this case
3. Update the old site and do not care that the domain does not match the company name.

I suggest the following procedure:
a) roll the update to the old one.
b) make the new domain synonymous with the site.
c) set the new domain in robots.txt as the main one.
d) set up a 301 redirect.
