PC with Windows 8.

Task:
Share a folder on a VPS for PC via the Internet.

Depending on the QUALITY of the link, you can use iscsi (with exclusive access). The disk will be seen as a normal HDD, with caching, blackjack, etc.
Options for the "home" with different degrees of complexity of setup, use and capabilities
- console DropBox on the server
- FTP
- WebDAV
- WebDAV using emulator tools (for example, a WebDAV server in PHP, ownCloud has one)
- SAMBA (CIFS)

I remember there were no problems connecting from under Win7 to another WinXP directly by IP address (the firewall was configured correctly or disabled) net use \\ip\share /user: user_win password
This means to set up access restrictions on the samba server address (there is nothing to directly shine SMB on the Internet) and suddenly you are lucky and Windows 8 will allow you to connect like that.
