.net fw 4.0 not installing?
Greetings. I'm already ready to hit the wall with my head, because it doesn't work out in any way ...
Win 7 ultimate x64, fresh, even licensed. Of the applications there, only comodo internet security, ccleaner, 7-zip, firefox, truecrypt. All updates are installed. And in general this venda does not even have a day.
I tried to install VS2010 - but to hell with it. The C++ components are installed and that's it. Installation stuck on trying to install .net 4.0. Waited half an hour, silence. Spat, canceled - neither a client profile nor a full-installer from the ms site is installed. It just doesn't open - UAC asks and that's it, silence.
I tried to unpack msi, run setup.exe - it says that it cannot deliver with an unknown error. Maybe he needs to feed an argument?
I checked the system, ran sfc, checked the registry, even tried to disable the antivirus at the time of installation - it does not help. Well, without .net 4, as I understand it, I won’t launch visual studio.

In general, the problem was that the installer could not determine the bitness of the operating system. Here I laughed heartily. Enchanting fail from ms, but oh well.
The MSI package was unpacked using 7-zip and launched from under the admin console using Setup.exe /x64. The funny thing is that this flag is not displayed using Setup.exe / h - such as an undocumented feature. It is installed like, the base is installed, now it is downloading the components.
Phew, and fussing with Linux and patching modules seemed very complicated to me ...
In our office, we had a case with installing .Net 4.0 on 32-bit Win7.
.Net installed all day long. Settled. Works.
Run the installation at night - in the morning there will be happiness.
