MX Linux or Debian?

I want to put one of the selected distributions, but I doubt it. There is MX, very popular lately (# 1 distrowatch), but the word midweight is a bit alarming in the description :) and the fact that the system for it is higher than that of Ubuntu (I have an old laptop with i3 processor and 4 gigs of RAM). And there is the old Debian, proven over the years. Since I am not a guru, I would like to know what would be more pleasant for an amateur and where can I get a quick support in case of a problem?
