You need to display the last 3 articles on the main page. The template is non-standard. Can I somehow display by number from the last, last, penultimate, penultimate?
UPD: The layout of the block itself is not an option to decide, you just need to set it rigidly - here we display the first, here the second, here the third

not quite clear what you mean? output the last 3? decides the sorting direction ASC or DESC
if about templates, then use :nth-child or add classes to the template will give numbering
