Modify IR remote for TimeLapse?

Hello!
There is a topic on Habré - Intervalometer for SONY NEX-5 in 20 minutes and $ 0.
There we solder a simple circuit of 3.5 jacks and 2 LEDs, after that we launch a special track on the player and the camera starts taking pictures at certain intervals.
There are no problems for Sonya and Canon - there are a lot of sound files on the network that contain the ir sequence for them, but for Nikon I could not find this.
But I have this remote control:

To the right of the button there are 2 contacts - if they are closed - the remote control will send the necessary command to the fotik.
Now the question is how to make the circuit close every n seconds? Is it possible to implement this using an mp3 player, a wire with a jack and a soldering iron? My knowledge in electronics, to put it mildly, is not very)
Thank you!

@viperet

My friend took timelapse on Nikon by connecting it via USB to a netbook running a special program that took pictures after a given time interval and immediately dragged them off the camera.

You can try it through the relay to connect to the mp3 player. That's just there it will be necessary to suffer in order to select the relay accordingly. Is it possible to replace all this with some kind of arduino.
