Missing third-party cookies?

Hello, the problem is this:
There is our site abc.com, using ajax ($.get) we request a php file from the site xyz.com that sets 5 cookies and returns the xml format. Cookies have a lifespan of at least 10 minutes. But on subsequent requests to xyz.com, some cookies are lost.
We then request a 1px gif file where some cookies are already missing
. abc.com does NOT have js scripts installed from xyz.com that could manage cookies. Only 2 requests.
How can they disappear? Is there any js detector that can read and log 3rd party cookies within its own domain?
