Methodology for migrating a project to a new version of direct x

It so happened that I need to port a project written using directXSDK 8 to directXSDK 11. These two versions are very different both in the signature of the functions used and in the features of building programs. Therefore, I would like to ask for possible general advice on the transfer of the project, received from my own experience or from any other sources.
I will also be grateful if you share books on 11th direct x that you consider good.
