Memory usage in Windows 8.1?
How can I force Windows to use more RAM instead of swap? Physical 8 GB, swap 1 GB original + 3.5 GB maximum. A permanent picture - half of the operational is free, but the swap is packed almost to the eyeballs. The option swap size initial = maximum 500 MB is not suitable, because. in some cases (games) a message about a lack of memory quickly pops up.

A person describes a situation when a computer has 8 gigabytes of RAM on board, but Windows 8.1 64 bit sees all the memory, but uses only ~ 4 gigabytes of RAM, refusing to use the rest of the RAM and, accordingly, cracks with a screw (driving data back and forth) .... how to solve this problem so that Windows uses all 8 gigs for its intended purpose?

But when processing 5 + GB of text files, of course, you will already feel both the speed of the RAM and the load on the pool ... up to 30GB ..
And so there is only 1 output, as far as I know.
If 8GB of RAM goes somewhere, set the swap value to 16 MB ~ .....
The RAM will be used mainly. Well, of course, reboot in this case, the more often the better .. For the result
1. If you often get a message about the lack of memory, and even then there are user complaints about performance, then increasing the size of the swap is, in my opinion, the wrong decision. It would be more correct to stupidly add RAM, no matter how unpleasant it is for the wallet.
2. You should never leave the size of the swap at the discretion of the OS, but always make the minimum necessary fixed size (in the settings, set the max. and min. size to the same number). The reason is simple: if the size of the paging file "walks", then this file becomes highly fragmented over time, and since it is not relocatable, defragmenting does not eliminate this. And reading / writing fragmented files, as you know, lasts much longer than whole ones - hence the additional performance losses that arose literally "out of nothing".
By limiting swap, you have limited the amount of memory that the system can use and this memory is not enough for it. About that and the numbers in the screenshot.
