I am going to enter the university this year and I want to take the maximum amount of useful material from those 4 years that I will study there.
There is a choice between the faculty of the PMM VSU, the direction of preparation "Applied Mathematics and Informatics" and the MMF NSU, the direction of preparation "Applied Mathematics and Informatics" and "Mathematics". At VSU there is a (perhaps worthwhile) specialization in data analysis, at the same time it is believed that the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics can provide a significantly higher level of mathematical training (however, due to the Dunning-Kruger paradox and the elementary laws of advertising on the market, none of these statements it is not possible to verify it either by a survey of students or by an appeal to the teaching staff). I would like you to advise which university is better to choose. And in general, should fundamental mathematical training be preferred to some experience in the profession?
