MATE environment is buggy in kali linux; how to fix?

I decided to change my desktop environment in Kali Linux from GNOME to MATE. Installed, configured, it would seem that everything is fine, but as soon as you click on the desktop or open a window, the picture immediately becomes very distorted. How to fix this problem?

Don't use Kali as desktop linux - it's unsafe and unusable.
