Magento or Opencart?

Interested in your opinion for both small stores and large ones?
It will be interesting to see working examples of famous stores on these CMS.

Between magento and opencart, I advise you to choose magento.
And I do NOT recommend choosing Bitrix. The fact that it is distributed in the Russian Federation does not make it a good product. Many of the pluses mentioned above are stretched. In real life, you will get a bunch of crutches and hemorrhoids. And TP, even if you have the most expensive license, does not get smarter and cannot help in any way.
Developing a store may not be a problem, but support ...
In general, Bitrix can be watered with shit for a long time, both from the admin side and from the developer side.

for the western market, Magento definitely drives Bitrix
in the Russian segment

I don't know about magento, but I'm pretty familiar with opencart.
I'll just share my personal experience about what I ended up having to finish:

  • Firstly, the engine does not have built-in tools for mass adding / updating goods, with a price of 3000 goods this is critical, so in the end I had to buy a module (800r) and update prices with availability through xml files (dig in the direction of direct synchronization with 1C just didn't).
  • Ajax search, fortunately there are plenty of free modules, so this did not cause any problems
  • Perhaps one of the most important drawbacks of the engine can be called - delivery and payment methods, their system in the engine is so stupid that you can’t just take and create a payment / dispatch method with the necessary name, something has to be finished manually, and something completely install separately.
  • Registration and ordering - the built-in option is too dreary and requires too much unnecessary information from the user, so in the end a module was bought that made it possible to simplify this process to your liking.
  • Extra elements - for example, the "add to bookmarks" and "add to comparison list" buttons had to be removed manually by directly editing the code.
  • Design - of course, I had to edit a lot myself, but in fairness, to one degree or another, this will have to be done in absolutely any engine.

I started with OpenCart, but it did not fit my requirements and tasks. But Magento turned out to be what I need - a serious and flexible thing.

Magento . Dot.
How pleasant and easy it is to answer questions without specifics.
In fact, it is worth clarifying from what position the question is asked.
And you need an online storefront for this store, then... then this choice should not bother you at all. Find a contractor who will bang "online store". In almost every city in the homeland there is a studio where you can discuss your Wishlist or typical solutions of competitors. And in the open spaces of freelance there are fighters for any platform.
Seriously. Why bother with all these "hostings", "plugins", "themes"?
Or maybe it's better to use an online service to design your online store?
And you are faced with the choice of a platform on which to build a business. Then take here the system with which your developers (or your future developers) are more familiar. If you need something in PHP, take Wordpress, Drupal or 1С-Bitrix, Simpla.Cms. You are a studio, why do you need a free CMS?
github -> magento
- PHP, MySQL (you are a developer with PHP expertise)
- extensible architecture
- modern language trends
Techno Nicole Ukraine is made on Wordpress for a large retailer in Ukraine. Well, nothing like that. Integration with 1C, geo-targeting, and a bunch of improvements is quite a small team.
adidas.ru is powered by Demandware . This is not about a site for all stalls in Russia, but about a platform for the entire Adidas Group. This is when the SLA for the operation of sites and the SLA for development / support, this is when a single code base, but its own customizations and its own product catalog for each country. Well, and a trailer of pleasant little things ..
So what am I talking about? Magento or Opencart? Magento. Or maybe Bitrix?

@ShamblerR

47% of all Runet stores are collected on 1s-Bitrix
And all the rest there are about 500 engines, they make up 53%
Before choosing from these engines, you must clearly understand that you are definitely not choosing from industry leaders, so you bet on outsiders from the very beginning.
Russian API
Integration with Russian services
real feedback (at conferences)
Cluster from the box
CDN from the box
Certification of employees is free.
"Composite site" - there is no analogue for stores (although it is a promo option, but nevertheless a crutch with API)
Now they are working on the integration of direct and goods (automatic management of the company depending on the balances)
And so on and so forth.
Eldarado euroset
and so on.
