Hm.
I am not a specialist in apple technology and do not follow its development, however -

Macbook pro 2009
As far as I know, the development of the NVMe interface was just beginning at this time, and it was released in 2011.
We conclude that a laptop manufactured in 2009 could not have an SSD with an NVMe interface.
So you bought an NVMe SSD and plugged it into SATA. Of course it won't work.
So?
Or not? What connector do you have? M2? What disk?
