MAC OS X Lion, Mail, IMAP, filters don't always work?

That's why I need filters - to highlight incoming colors with different colors, because I navigate much better by color than by text. But the problem is that these filters work every other time, selectively without any logic. What could be the problem or how can I identify the problem?
