Looking for web chat

Kind.
The people asked to install a web chat in the LAN, they don’t want to see all sorts of irc, jabber, they are tired of it. They want a web face and not related to irc, jabber

Advise a chat with wide functionality or with the possibility of expanding this functionality (to have mods, ready-made plugins).
No matter how desirable it is not a dead engine.

Programming language:

php, perl, python.

Number of users:

500 with a ponytail

Integrate with the site: I will not.

Tell me the engine that you used and can tell you approximate pros and cons.

Thank you for viewing and answering the post ;-)

Once upon a time, they used php.spb.ru/chat/
Now, of course, it has died out. You can still download.

Somehow I set up this script for 5 USD: www.tufat.com/s_flash_chat_chatroom.htm
Works on Flash, but with a bunch of settings.
Quite good.
Minute installation.
Settings and controls are much tastier than $5 cost)

after using node.JS, I can advise you to use it in conjunction with socket.io. Just like a tornado, it is a server, not a ready-made chat, but the creation of the latter is described in the examples on the official site (actually, there are 10-15 lines).
