Loading GIF as VK - what are the implementation methods?

The task was to make the loading of GIF animations as VK: initially, we are shown static with a button on top of the image, by pressing the button, the gif is loaded.

Are there GIF methods in JS/jQuery?
As I understand it, it is not necessary to initially download the full animation, but only the first frame, and by clicking on the picture, start loading the entire animation.
