Literature for a systems programmer?

What can you advise to read for a system programmer? I started learning C. According to the K&R book, but nowhere in the book is the work, principles, devices, stack, heap, and many other things described. .Just wondering how people learned how to work with this, before the Internet era? Well, or not before the Internet era, but without any blogs, where a certain person describes how it works.

When I worked as a system programmer for an ES computer, my favorite book (apart from the multi-volume books describing this very ES computer) was "IBM 360/370 Assembler". That's where everything was taken - from literature.
