Linux: Why does the LibreOffice document print the letter Y without a wand in the default font?

When printing a document from LibreOffice (and from Apache OpenOffice too), the letter "Y" is printed without the right stick, something like "b" (in place of the stick there is an empty space).
This happens only with some fonts: so far only two have been found: Calibri and DejaVu Sans , many others that have been tested do not suffer from this problem ( Droid , Liberation , UDW families ). Calibri is used by default in LibreOffice , the idea to change the font did not come to mind right away.
According to reviews, export to PDF works, then PDF printing to paper: but in this mode there are some problems with quotes. I could not reproduce the problems with quotes, so there is nothing to add on this detail. Y is indeed preserved in its normal form.
The issue occurred on Ubuntu 13.04 and was confirmed on Linux Mint 16 . Printing in all cases is done over the network by the HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP printer .

  • Changing the way of interaction with the printer from CUPS gave nothing.
  • It was also tested on a completely updated Linux Mint 16: it is unlikely that this is an outdated system.
  • DejaVu Sans prints fine from Inkscape (probably not related to the problem).
  • I can't understand on what basis the fonts are divided into those that print well, and those in which Y without a wand (and only on paper!). Now we have limited ourselves to the "white list" of fonts in documents, a temporary solution, everyone is happy: but the problem still exists.
