Linux slows down on macbook13 - wtf?

It so happened that I had to reinstall from the old to the new HardDisk. Question about installing wasps, started with macos liv- writes that installation is not possible!
I scored on that poppy OS 10.6.8 - I remembered that I have a favorite Ubuntu, installed it.
For some reason, it was not possible to merge all the broken sections into 1 whole. (HDD removed from old Asus 160GB) with windows 7 Ultimate *.
So, I installed it, updated it, everything is OK, but now it starts to lag!
1 GB of RAM for 512 two boards and HDD for 160 - Samsung
Old was a fujitsu for 120 GB. Restore failed
How to improve performance?
1120 mb swap file

And why shouldn't he slow down on such ancient hardware?
Ubuntu is extremely gluttonous, 1GB of RAM GDM \ Unity eats like crazy. Install something simpler like XUbuntu\LUbuntu. Are you sure that your new (old hard) is really alive normally? That it does not overheat in a macbook? And does it have more / less speed than the native one? Does it have more/less cache?
First try to install Internet recovery by Command+Option+R at boot.
Write the specific model of your macbook.
PS: fix.
