Linux Live: Only desktop background and cursor - how to fix?

Hello.

I was running Live Linux distributions (Kali Live and Slax) from a flash drive and had a problem.

With Slax - I tried it on a computer to which a monitor was connected (it seems via VGA) and a TV via HDMI. The TV was turned off, booted from a USB flash drive - only the background and the cursor appeared on the monitor, which could be taken away from the left edge of the screen. Then he turned on the TV, where the taskbar was. When you turn off HDMI, the system realized where the main monitor is.

With Kali - there is a laptop with the display removed, therefore connected via HDMI to the TV. The situation is the same - only the background and the cursor. Apparently trying to make the missing display the main screen.

Because of this, the question arises - how to tell the system where the main screen is?
