libcurl alternative

I'm looking for a replacement for libcurl, I can't work with pure sockets, because interaction over HTTPS, but I'm not friends with ssl.
Found like it was https://code.google.com/p/serf/
But I could not assemble at least a test file

So in the same place there is nothing complicated to work directly with sockets.
If you don't need to parse html, then what's the problem?
