Language for getting to know the backend?

Good day!
I will briefly describe the situation: I study at the university in the 2nd year. We passed the c ++ course, touched the oop, there is some kind of base in this regard. I want to move towards backend - programming, I really like this direction.
Closer to the summer (in 6-8 months) I would like to start an internship / get a job as a junior in this direction.
In my city this is only possible with php/java. I'm already a little familiar (at the level of writing a simple parser, for example) and with both jap + there is a little knowledge of front-end development. The question is: what language would you recommend? This means studying the latest version of php + some popular framework (I look towards symfony / laravel), and not cms.
I understand that there will always be a chance to jump between these japs, and in general, learning one of them will help me a lot in learning another jap, and that the main thing in this area is the study of application architecture, design patterns, etc. But if you were faced with such a choice, what would you advise? All in the realities of Russia, of course.

The chance that you come to PHP with bad habits after Java is less than vice versa.
True, the chance that you will do at least something at least somewhat solid as part of an internship, and not the rough work of a coder from now to now, is very different in the opposite direction. However, in a large project on a modern framework and on PHP, you can not give the trainee anything more complicated than writing out banal tests.
I would rather evaluate WHAT kind of work you, as an intern, can be offered. Language is number nine...

NodeJS and PHP are not platforms/languages, but some kind of misunderstanding.
