Jailbreak, how is it?

Hey Habr! There was a question regarding the jailbreak procedure in general. As far as I understand, a spherical jailbreak in a vacuum is a patch for an operating system that allows you to install unsigned applications. Hence the question arises - how can an unbroken OS accept an unsigned jailbreak?

Jail in the understanding of iOS is the impossibility of direct access to the system and user data, as well as to the data of other applications from your application. Access is possible only through the API offered by the OS. In addition, there is no way to install third-party applications - only through the AppStore with its strict rules and pre-moderation.
Accordingly, Jailbreak is an opportunity to bypass these restrictions. Through a hole in the bootloader or in the system, it becomes possible to install Cydia to install arbitrary software. The ability to install hacked software from the AppStore is secondary and requires additional gestures.
There is also the concept of locked phones and Unlock - phones are blocked for a specific operator. Unlocking is possible (sometimes) after Jailbreak, since you need to patch the GSM unit (modem). In the latest versions of unlock, they waited up to six months, and did not wait - hardware proxy-sims appeared, and Apple began to sell unlocked phones more widely.

Through a security hole.
Aren't you surprised by the presence of cracks for Windows, for example?
