Is Vulkan API the future?

Here are some quotes from the OpenGl wiki:
"Vulkan, formerly known as glNext, is a new API that meets the requirements of modern realities and eliminates the main shortcomings of OpenGL",
"Apple deprecated OpenGL and OpenGL ES technologies at the WWDC event in June 2018",
And one from the Vulkan API wiki
"The Vulkan API was originally known as "the next generation of OpenGL" or simply "glNext",...."
So Vulkan is the future, is it an evolution of OpenGl? Am I understanding everything correctly?

Certainly! I heard the same thing 6 years ago when doom came out. And the fact that Apple declares something there is a serious argument, somewhere, where, but on poppies, a volcano is very necessary, yes.
