Is tile tags and CNC products without hierarchy the right way?

Very cool SEO experts reported that links like "Site\Catalog\Category\Subcategory\Product are the last century.

Now you need to make links like Site\Catalog\Product.

And place a lot of tags on the page with a direct link to products. It's called " Tag Tile".

Do you confirm this?

It's strange why they didn't explain to you why it's yesterday's age?
Or do they know more about fashion or charge a lot for consultations?))
It's not about the century and not about what is fashionable on websites now, but about the fact that product cards in online stores can be broadcast not only on the Category page, but also and on:
  1. tag pages;
  2. pages, filter results;
  3. etc.

Accordingly, if you create URLs with nesting as in the "last century", then there will be a serious problem with the URL structure of cards and the structure of "Breadcrumb" and a lot of other restrictions.
And when a card with a minimum nesting in the URL, it becomes an independent page and remains it, no matter where it is placed on the site.
And place a lot of tags on the page with a direct link to the products. It's called "Tag Tile".

I recommend treating such statements with caution, because. It doesn't work for all topics. Sometimes Google can give an ata-ta for spamming anchors on internal links. In this regard, at one time on WP blogs, the "Label cloud" widgets disappeared, which were wildly popular before the google sanctions.
So test.
